Perfect conditions tonight, with the moon half buried in cloud, a bat for company and a witch over the rooftops while everyone below keeps the lamps lit and doesn’t look up. The Irish artist Power O’Malley made her for the cover of Life on 30 October 1913, and she usually goes by “Beware the Beautiful Witch”, though one dealer’s listing gives just “Beware!”. Happy Halloween to all of you, and if something taps at the window later on, I’d leave the curtains shut.
